|PowerQUICC II (Design 3)
This design is based around the Motorola MPC8250 (a device with reduced functionality and cost savings compared to the MPC 8260). The board provides a Network Interface (Ethernet) connection, and a proprietary parallel interface to control up to eight optical switch controller boards. With linear FLASH, SDRAM, RS232 ports and other support features such as battery backed RTC, temperature monitoring and parallel I/O this board offered an effective solution for control of the optical switch in telecom environments. The board was designed and delivered on-time without the need for a second iteration.
Expansion capability was designed in to allow for boards to be fitted to support additional interfaces such as an IEEE port, isolated control outputs and status inputs, additional RS232 ports and also a full memory expansion port.
